I was seeing children with new eyes. It wasn’t so much their I.Q. or language difficulty, but it was their feelings of embarrassment due to racial or nationality background, and all the other embarrassments and problems of their childhood. How wonderful, I thought, if we could write of these feelings and through sharing them with the group find relief and understanding… Children are hungry to hear there is something fine within them… They are hungry to feel their own deeper selves recognized. So are we all. Most wonderful is the fact that as we work to free the child and build confidence, we find ourselves more free and confident.”
