“Yes, life goes on, there IS life after teaching. The thread need not be cut; being an art educator doesn’t end with the job. It is work that never ends. There is always a fight about supporting the arts in the schools, questions about curriculum, speaking at conferences, doing one’s own art work and writing articles, as well as getting involved politically with those who always want to cut back on budgets.
Some years ago I wrote a Fantasy for the Future (1980). I envisioned a school day in which the majority of time is devoted to the arts, with the late afternoon hour scheduled for math, science and physical education. It hasn’t happened yet, but one must have vision and patience, right?”
