2001 – Art from Outside the Box

“[M]y greatest concern for the future relates to what governments can do in the name of the public interest to redefine the goals of art and its service in the education of American children and youth…As I see it the strength of the arts are still to be found in the American public’s genuine love of art and its desire to learn more about the arts. This will be evident in the continuing growth of arts audiences, in the museum, concert hall, dance studio and in the theatre. We will see in spite of the lower rates of attendance of the baby boomers, a significant increase especially by those who search for the spiritual values of art which is now attracting an even greater number of young Americans to the arts. “
