“I asked the director of the School of Communications and Arts, a man allied to the dictatorship, permission and money to organize a seminar on Art Education, very modestly designated Art and Teaching Week. He agreed because, as he told me afterwards, he thought that art education would interest only a few people. Therefore he figured out a small meeting. We had 3000 art educators from all over the country. Paulo Freire who was coming from the exile opened the Conference and we created the first State Association of Art Education.”
