My philosophical point of view concerning art education has evolved over the years in response to events and changes in culture, ideas, and theory. I have always viewed the nature of art education as an open concept, one that is evolutionary. This explains some of my rationale for the things that I did and things that I changed during my career. I carried a respect for the traditions and antecedents of our field. All ideas grow and have roots in other past ideas …The people always, however, have adapted and made adjustment. One of the blessings of youth is that they have no extensive history and do not say such funny things as “In the good old days.” “Let me tell you how it was.” “I remember.” “It was certainly different and definitely better in my day.”
