“So long as art persists as anything like what we know today, it will offer inherent possibilities for education. Art educators will continuously shift the balance among these possibilities, as they have been doing since at least the eighteen-eighties. That’s too obvious to rank as a prediction. In his old age, the eighteenth century philosopher Voltaire advised tending one’s roses. From my own experience, I can offer one bit of advice: if you should happen to be an art teacher and you can find any others, spend some of your time with them.”
